THE STORY BEHIND THE LINE
Geometry with Room to Flow
An editorial reading in dialogue with Madeleine Vionnet
Madeleine Vionnet’s experiments with draping and folding offer a lens on order and freedom. In Champagne Drape, repeated motifs establish a measured rhythm before the layer falling from the hip changes its direction. Sara’s drawing holds the regular and the unexpected together. Its composure comes from lines the eye can follow, and one asymmetric gesture that leaves room for imagined movement.
